Just Go With It (PG-13)
Mike:

Scott:
Scott: Tonight we are reviewing Just Go With It
. A movie starring Adam Sandler
as Danny, a guy who uses his wedding ring to hook up with women.
What did you think Mike?
Mike: I liked this. The movie is very predictable, but pretty funny. I will say that I don't come to an Adam Sandler movie for the plot, though.
What did you think?
Scott: I think it was the same Adam Sandler movie we have seen before with a better cast. I don't know why I go to his movies anymore.
Mike: Are you a highbrow comedy guy now?
Scott: No, I just like original stuff like The Hangover
. This one does have Jennifer Aniston
as his assistant Katherine. I like her in most movies and liked her in this.
Mike: I had an idea what this movie was going to be like from the trailer.
Scott: Yeah, I did as well.
Mike: And I cant say I was disappointed by the bikini scenes.
Scott: There was a lot of flesh in the movie. And most of it was nice, some not so much.
Mike: I also liked Jennifer Aniston. She was very likeable for a change. She has been pretty dull in many of her last few movies (The Bounty Hunter
).
Scott: This actually reminded me a bit of her Friends
days. A good mix of girl-next-door sexy and a good dose of humor.
Mike: Yep.
Scott: The other attraction in the movie is Brooklyn Decker
as Palmer. And I do mean attraction.
Mike: You know that Brooklyn Decker, the Sports Illustrated model is going to be hot, but then you are almost surprised that Aniston is hot, too.
Brooklyn is pretty good for somebody who doesn't have a lot of acting experience.
Scott: There is an age difference, but they are both good looking women.
Palmer is a bubbly, kind-of air-headed 6th grade teacher. She's not the type of person who have a deep connection with.
Mike: I don't know if she is supposed to be naive or not too bright. The problem is she is supposed to be a teacher, so that could be a problem...
Scott: That was my thought too.
Danny is a wealthy L.A. plastic surgeon. He uses a wedding ring and sad stories to trick women into feeling sorry for him and then sleeping with him.
Katherine is his medical assistant at his practice.
Mike: Adam Sandler plays the same guy he has played for several movies now. Somehow, he is always a rich guy with a sense of humor and a heart of gold.
Scott: And he uses tricks to get women because we all know women hate nice men with loads of money.
Mike: He may need the tricks, because even though we know he's Adam Sandler, he's not the handsomest guy.
Scott: True, but still...
The fourth adult lead in the movie is Nick Swardson
as Eddie, Danny's cousin and a loser.
Mike: He is pretty funny, but I'm not sure I know where we know him from?
Probably other Adam Sandler movies?
Scott: Yes and a few other movies like this that Sandler wasn't in, but produced.
Mike: Speaking of Sandler regulars, I was surprised that Rob Schneider
is not in thismovie.
Scott: Yes, that suprised me too.
Mike: But the real surprise to me was that Nicole Kidman
and Dave Mathews
are in this thing.
Not really the typical Kidman, though. She hasn't done too many comedies.
Scott: While Kidman's character was predictable, I liked Mathews.
There are also a couple kids in the movie. Maggie (Bailee Madison
) and Michael (Griffin Gluck
) are Katherine's children from her first marriage.
Mike: Yes Scott and what did you think of them? As if I didn't already know.
Scott: For me, they quickly turn me off to the movie. They were supposed to be funny/annoying, but they didn't do the funny thing.
Mike: I thought the kids were fine, but I too was glad that they are not the focus of the movie.
Scott: One of the reasons this seemed like every other Adam Sandler movie is it was directed by Dennis Dugan
, who has directed a bunch of other Sandler movies.
Mike: I guess you don't mess with a winning combo. Sandler/Dugan movies usually do quite well.
This movie sometimes goes off the deep end with some ridiculous situations, but all in all I laughed through out the film.
Oh I also have to mention the music.
Scott: The music was interesting.
Mike: I think just about every song in the movie is a mashup of a Police
song andsomething else. I think the best one is a mix of Every Breath You Take
and Chasing Cars
by Snow Patrol
.
Scott: I liked that one too.
One of the two writers, Allan Loeb
, also wrote for Aniston in The Switch
and a TV show I liked, New Amsterdam
. The other writer is Timothy Dowling
, whoco-wrote Role Models
.
Mike: So how do you rate this?
Scott: I liked it until the kids killed it for me. There were a few laughs at the end, but by then thedog already had a sore leg. I give it 2 stars for comedy and 2 overall.
And you?
Mike: I think this will be a pretty good date movie. I plan to see it again and take my wife. I give this a 3 overall and a 3 for comedy.
