The Hangover (R)
Mike:

Scott:

Scott: Tonight we are reviewing The Hangover. This is the latest comedy from Judd Apatow... Wait.. Apatow isn't associated with this? A comedy without Apatow, it must be terrible, or must it?
What did you think Mike?
Mike: This movie is hilarious. In the same league as the latest Apatow movies, and it's also a worthy successor to Old School.
What did you think?
Scott: It's not terrible, in fact, it's really good. Easily the best laugh I've had in a while.
Mike: Looking at the preview, you will think "Oh it’s the movie with the guy from The Office in it", but it really doesn't matter if you know the actors in it ahead of time. They turn out to be a great ensemble.
Scott: In fact, I think it was better because they didn't have that 'big' star. It let you watch the movie and not the actors.
Mike: It is definitely about the situations they find themselves in. This is a bachelor party that has gone waaaay wrong.
Scott: I'd say the biggest star in the movie is Bradley Cooper as Phil Wenneck. He's probably best remembered from his role as the mean fiancé in Wedding Crashers.
Mike: I first saw him on Alias. Phil is the ringleader in this Vegas adventure.
Scott: In this he is one of the best men in Doug Billings' (Justin Bartha) wedding. Phil is a guy who actually drives better drunk (don't try that at home). He's also the buddy that makes the wives nervous when you want to hang around him.
Mike: He is Mr. "Hey relax, we'll worry about the consequences later". Especially if it's your stuff and not his.
Like the aforementioned drunk driving. You know it wasn’t his car.
Scott: The last time I saw Bartha was in the National Treasure movies. So far he's shown that he's a good number two. In this movie he's the bachelor at a Las Vegas bachelor party. The day after the big event he goes missing. So in this movie you don't see a lot of him either
Mike: I knew that I recognized him, but I couldn't place him. Thanks for the National Treasure reminder.
Scott: It took almost half the movie to remember though.
Mike: A lot of the humor in this movie comes from the fact that none of them can remember what happened at the bachelor party, but there is some very odd evidence left over when we start the film.
There is a ton of stuff these dudes don't know. Like why is Mike Tyson in their penthouse? Tyson is very funny, by the way.
Scott: The day after scenes are so funny. I was hoping to see some of what happened during the night of partying, but we aren't let in on that. All we see is the crazy morning after.
You mentioned The Office earlier; Ed Helms from The Office is the best man Stu Price. He's not much for adventure. Actually, his girlfriend isn't much for his having adventures.
Mike: He's pretty funny though. He’s a dentist walking around with a missing tooth.
Scott: And he doesn't know why he's missing a tooth.
Mike: To me the funniest guy in the film is the guy I completely don't know Zach Gaifianakis. (Good thing this is written , so we don't have to try and pronounce that.) Zach plays Alan Garner, the brother of the bride. He got sort of forced on the other guys, but he is so odd, he really cracked me up.
Scott: He is the strange brother of the girl you dated in high school. Only now he's now in his thirties and is legally prevented from going near a high school.
Looking back on his work, I finally remember where I saw him. He was in Bubble Boy back in 2001. I know, Best Picture nominee... I thought his small role in that film was funny. I guess I liked it enough to vaguely remember his face.
Mike: Never seen him before.
Nice white pants and a T-shirt for a night out on the Vegas strip. Oh, also, nice "man bag".
Scott: He is funny goofy, funny dumb, and just plain funny.
Mike: Another guy I have to mention is Ken Jeong as Mr Chow. If you have seen an Apatow movie, then you have seen this guy.
Scott: I keep seeing more and more of him. In this, maybe too much.
Mike: Apparently this guy was a doctor, before and now has quit, because he is so busy in movies.
Scott: All that money for school and now he's in Hollywood. Was that a step up?
We also get the pleasure of having Heather Graham in this movie. She is one of my favorites.
Mike: I cannot get too much Heather, either. In fact, where has she been lately?
Scott: TV wasteland.
Mike: That show she had didn't last long. Wasn't that a couple years ago, though?
Scott: Last year
Todd Phillips directed this and also directed Old School.
Mike: Guess why I mentioned Old School earlier...
His Road Trip was pretty good, too, but please explain Starsky and Hutch.
Scott: Dan Finnerty is also in this movie. He's doing the same thing he always does for Phillips. I won't say what it is, but will let you see if you can figure it out.
Mike: Look at you Mr. Obscure Trivia Boy. Now I have to look up who that is.
Scott: That's the point.
Mike: I know, but you usually don't stump with that stuff, but you got me this time.
Scott: hah
So what do you rate this?
Mike: I give this a 4 overall and a 4 for comedy. This will be one of the top comedies of the year. I'm ready to see it again.
How do you rate this?
Scott: This is a great comedy, it's a Vegas movie, but it's not Very Bad Things. I give this a 4 overall and a 4 for comedy.
Go see it first thing Saturday morning. The dark theatre will help you get over your Hangover.
